CHT Land Commission meeting postponed in Rangamati due to settlers’ threats

Hill Voice, 17 October 2025, Special Correspondent: The meeting of the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Land Dispute Resolution Commission, which was called for 19 October 2025 in Rangamati, has been postponed due to the threat of a strike by the Parbatya Chattagram Chhatra Parishad (PCCP), a student organization of army-backed Bengali settlers.

The meeting was postponed in a notification signed by the Secretary of the CHT Land Dispute Resolution Commission (Joint District and Sessions Judge) Mohammad Sahab Uddin on Thursday (16 October). The meeting was scheduled to be held at the Land Commission office set up at the Hill District Council office.

It is worth mentioning that on Thursday (16 October), the PCCP held a press conference with 8-point demands. At this time, the PCCP leaders said that if the Land Commission tries to hold the meeting without implementing the eight-point demands of the PCCP, the Land Commission meeting will be strongly resisted.

It appears that the Land Commission postponed the meeting due to this warning from the settlers’ communal organization, PCCP.

This is not the first time that ultra communal and ultra nationalist settler organizations have threatened to resist when the Hill Land Commission declares to convene a meeting. Earlier, the Land Commission meeting had to be postponed three times due to threats from the settlers’ communal organization, the Parbatya Chattagram Nagorik Parishad.

Upon its formation in December 2019, the Parbatya Chattagram Nagorik Parishad called a road blockade against the CHT Land Commission’s meeting called in Bandarban on December 23, 2019. As a result, the Land Commission meeting could not be held properly.

Then, in February 2020, the Parbatya Chattagram Nagorik Parishad surrounded the Land Commission meeting called in Rangamati in order to sabotage the previously scheduled meeting of the CHT Land Dispute Settlement Commission. At that time, instead of resisting the protesters of the Nagorik Parishad, the law and order, security forces and intelligence forces supported and abetted them in various ways.

Then, when the CHT Land Commission took the initiative to hold a meeting on September 7, 2022, this terrorist organization of settlers called for a 32-hour strike in Rangamati town area from 6:00 am on September 6 (Tuesday) to 2:00 pm on September 7 (Wednesday) with 7-point demands, including preventing the meeting. As a result, the Land Commission meeting was also postponed.
