Hill Voice, 26 March 2026, Rangamati: It is learnt that on Wednesday (25 March) at around 6 pm, more than 15-20 BGB members of the Kukimara BGB camp led by the camp commander Subedar Md. Malek under the ‘Wagga Kaptai 41 BGB Battalion’ in Wagga Tanchangya Para, Ward No. 4 of Wagga Union, Kaptai Upazila under Rangamati district, obstructed the local Jumma people while they were carrying wood belonging to their private property.
Chiranjeeb Tanchangya alias Tisha Bap, the owner of the timber, is currently an elected member of Ward No. 4 of Kaptai Union Parishad.
It is learnt that yesterday evening, while Chiranjeeb Tanchangya alias Tisha Bap was carrying his own timber, BGB members forcibly stopped him by threatening him with various threats and weapons. At one stage, the local indigenous people of the area united and strongly reacted and protested the matter. Later, the BGB members were forced to leave the timber and return to their camp after widespread public anger.
At this time, a local elder said that they are concerned about such brutality and extreme harassment on the eve of arrival of the great social festival of Jummas. He also said that such behavior by state forces is a gross violation of human rights.
It is learnt that the Commanding Officer of Wagga Kaptai 41 BGB Battalion is Lt. Col. Kawsar Mehdi.
