Hill Voice, 15 January 2026, Khagrachari: It is reported that yesterday, Wednesday (14 January), at around 4:00 p.m., three Jumma individuals were attacked with sharp weapons by Bangali settlers at a place called Khalpara under Headman Para of Kamalchari Union in Khagrachari Sadar Upazila.
The three victims are: 1. Thwaihlayang Chowdhury (68), S/O Kyajoi Chowdhury, address: Headman Para; 2. Bimal Tripura (37), S/O Manorom Tripura, address: Natunpara; and 3. Milon Chakma (39), S/O Kinaram Chakma, address: Noawara.
Among the three victims, Bimal Tripura was seriously injured after being attacked with a sharp weapon. He was initially taken to Khagrachari Hospital and later transferred to Asian Specialized Hospital Limited in Chittagong. Later, at around 3:00 p.m. today, he was transferred from Asian Specialized Hospital Limited to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment. According to doctors, his condition is very critical.
The other two victims were admitted to Khagrachhari Sadar Hospital, according to reports.
According to sources, a land dispute had been ongoing for a long time between Thwaihlayang Chowdhury and Bangali settler Abdul Bashi, S/O Tajir Uddin, address: Bhuiachari. It is reported that Thwaihlayang Chowdhury had been developing a mango plantation on the disputed land for many years. However, suddenly, the Bengali settler Abdul Bashi illegally began claiming ownership of the land.
At one stage, when a case was filed in court and, following a court order, officials from the Land Office came to investigate the land, the investigation could not be carried out due to obstruction by Bangali settlers.
Subsequently, Thwaihlayang Chowdhury, along with two laborers- Bimal Tripura and Milon Chakma- went to clear weeds in his mango plantation yesterday, Wednesday (14 January). At around 4:00 p.m., Abdul Bashi, along with his two sons Rashid and Nasir, and several other Bangali settlers, obstructed them from cleaning the jungle.
As a result, an argument broke out between the Bangali settlers and Thwaihlayang Chowdhury. At one stage of the altercation, the settlers launched repeated attacks on them with locally made sharp weapons. During the attack, Bimal Tripura sustained a severe head injury.
Later, when news of the incident spread to the surrounding villages, Jumma villagers gathered at the scene. Upon learning of their arrival, the Bangali settlers immediately fled the area. The villagers then rescued the three victims and took them to the hospital.
According to statements from the victims’ families, no case has been filed yet in connection with the incident. However, it is reported that they plan to file a case soon.
