Attempted shooting of an innocent villager by Mog Party terrorists in Rajvila

Hill Voice, 12 January 2026, Bandarban: It has been reported that on Friday (9 January), armed terrorists of the army-backed Mog Party attempted to kill an innocent person named Nisaaung Marma (55) by shooting him in Tongjama Para village of Rajvila Union under Sadar Upazila of Bandarban district. It is believed that the attackers initially attempted to abduct Nisaaung Marma.

Although Nisaaung Marma was injured by the gunfire of the terrorists, it has been reported that the two attackers were also injured by their own gunshots during the scuffle. However, the identities of the injured attackers could not be confirmed. It was also reported that the assailants were armed with automatic firearms.

Nisaaung Marma, who was targeted in the attack, is a local shopkeeper by profession. However, it is reported that he was previously a member of the Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS).

According to local sources, on the morning of that day (9 January), as Nisaaung Marma was opening his grocery shop as usual in Tongjama Para, four armed members of the Mog Party asked for his name and attempted to seize him. A scuffle then broke out between Nisaaung Marma and the Mog Party members. During the altercation, one member of the Mog Party attempted to shoot Nisaaung Marma, but due to the scuffle, two Mog Party members were injured by that gunfire. Taking advantage of the situation, Nisaaung Marma could flee, during which he was shot and sustained a minor injury to his leg.

It has been reported that the Mog Party members were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the attack. According to eyewitnesses, around 20 more armed Mog Party members were positioned a short distance away from the scene. Reports indicate that among the injured Mog Party members, one was admitted to Chandraghona Hospital in Kaptai, Rangamati district, while another was admitted to Malumghat Hospital in Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar.

It has been reported that the said Mog Party terrotists traveled to Rajvila from their hideout in Powaitu Para under Rajasthali Upazila of Rangamati district with the intention of collecting extortion money.

It may be noted that the Mog Party is described as an anti-CHT Accord organization allegedly created and backed by local leaders of the former Awami League and the army and is accused of involvement in extortion and terrorist activities. For a long time, reportedly under the shelter and patronage of the army, members of the Mog Party-divided into several groups-have been operating their terrorist activities by establishing bases mainly in Rajasthali, Bangalhalia, and Kaptai areas of Rangamati district, as well as in certain parts of Bandarban.

Even after the fall of the Awami League government, the continued presence and activities of Mog Party terrorists in and around the army camps in Rajasthali and Bangahalia have created underlying resentment and anxiety among the local people.
