Hill Voice, 27 February 2026, special correspondent: It has been reported that on the night of 19 January (Saturday) at approximately 3:30 a.m., in Ward No. 6 of Palongkhali Union under Ukhia Upazila in Cox’s Bazar District, a group of 6-7 individuals led by UP Member Kamal Uddin allegedly abducted Laxmimaya Chakma (17), an indigenous Chakma teenage girl.
The kidnapper was identified as Kamal Uddin (36), father: Md. Kalimullah Boli, mother: late Maleka Begum, wife: Taiba Begum, address-Uttar Rahmater Beel, Ward No. 3, Palongkhali UP No. 5, Village: Thaingkhali, Police Station: Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar.
According to the victim’s family, even after one month, the teenage girl has not yet been rescued. Instead, when the family sought justice over the incident, they were reportedly threatened that their hands and feet would be cut off.
At this time, the victim’s father stated that when they went to the police station for seeking justice, Kamal Member threatened them in front of the police, saying he would cut off their hands and feet. He also verbally abused them with derogatory remarks against the Chakma community and warned them to “do whatever you can against me.”
He further said, “I do not know what enmity he has with me. I have never harmed him in any way. I do not know for what reason he abducted my daughter.”
The victim’s elder brother said that 6-7 individuals, led by UP Member Kamal Uddin, abducted his sister. After the incident, they filed a General Diary (GD) at the police station. Since then, they have allegedly been receiving repeated death threats, including threats to cut off their hands and feet.
He added, “It has been a month since my sister was abducted, yet we still do not know where she has been taken, or whether she is alive or dead. We seek justice from the administration and request that my sister be rescued as soon as possible.”
According to various sources, Kamal Uddin was once involved in drug trafficking with more than fifty cases reportedly filed against him in connection with narcotics trade. It is alleged that he later became an elected public representative after previously being involved in drug-related activities.
