A speech-impaired Jumma girl sexually harassed by Bengali settler youths in Baghaichari

Hill Voice, 10 June 2025, Rangamati: It has been reported that a speech-impaired Jumma girl (14) was sexually harassed by a group of rowdy Muslim Bengali settler youths in a village called Aitgatya (Milanpur) on the Arjapur-Majhipara border link road in No.32 Baghaichari Union of Baghaichari Upazila of Rangamati Hill District.

The victim’s house in the village of Aitgatya, No.32 Baghaichari Union, Baghaichari Upazila.

According to local sources, on June 9, at approximately 4:00 PM, the victim girl was returning to her home from the village shop in Aitgatya via the Arjapur-Majhipara border link road.

At that time, three Bengali youths, Md. Sajeeb (25), Md. Al-Amin (23) and Md. Saidul Islam alias Shahidullah (22), residents of Ward No. 4 and 6 of Amtali Union of Baghaichari, were traveling on the Majhipara border link road. When they saw the speech-impaired Jumma girl (14) alone on their way back to their destination on a motorcycle, they immediately got off the motorcycle, forcibly hugged the girl (14) and tried to sexually harass her by touching her various private parts.

At that time, fortunately, some local youths from the village of Aitgatya arrived there. When they realized the matter, they immediately shouted and protested, and other local residents of the village also ran and arrived there.

Seeing the situation getting worse, the Muslim Bengali youths tried to flee the scene on their motorcycle but were stopped on the way. Later, the villagers punished them in a way and conditionally released them into the custody of the local public representatives and leaders of Amtali Union.

It is worth mentioning that the local residents of Majhipara completely banned non-locals and tourists from visiting Majhipara two and a half months ago due to various anti-social, immoral and harassing activities that took place there (in Majhipara village) under the pretext of visiting or traveling to Majhipara through the border link road, and for the overall interest of the locals.

But even then, local residents and public representatives have expressed the opinion that such undesirable incidents continue to occur as a result of some unruly individuals traveling to Majhipara, ignoring the ban.
