A new army checkpoint set up in Jurachari: causing fear of harassment among the locals

Hill Voice, 20 October 2025, Rangamati: It has been reported that a new checkpoint has been set up by the Shilchari Army Camp under the Bonjogichara Zone beside the bridge built over the Solok River at Samira Para village, Ward No. 3 of Jurachari Union in Jurachari Upazila of Rangamati Hill District. As a result, fear of harassment has reportedly arisen among the local residents.

According to the local correspondent of Hill Voice, a checkpoint has been set up beside the bridge built over the Solok River at Samira Para village, Ward No. 3 of Jurachari Union in Jurachari Upazila. He reported that the checkpoint was established by the Shilchari Army Camp under the Bonjogichara Zone.

He further stated that all boats traveling by river and all vehicles moving by road from Jurachari Upazila headquarters will fall under the jurisdiction of this checkpoint. For instance, people traveling from Samira Para to Ghilatuli, Shilchari, Fakirachari, and most areas of Maidang Union will have to pass through this checkpoint.

A local elder, who wished to remain anonymous, said, “What else could be the purpose of setting up such a checkpoint here other than to harass the people? We already live in constant fear and anxiety, and after hearing the news about this new army checkpoint, it is clear that the locals will now face even more forms of harassment.”
