Hill Voice, 15 May 2025; Chittagong: A Bawm named lalthaleng Bawm (30), son of Mr. Lalmin Lian Bawm and Mrs. Pena Clear Bawm, detained in Chittagong Central Jail, has died due to lack of treatment, and another Bawm named Songmoy Bawm (55) has been reported to be seriously ill.

It is known that lalthaleng Bawm’s house is in Bethel Bawm Para, Ward No. 4, No.2 Ruma Sadar Union, Ruma Upazila, Bandarban District, and the house of the sick Songmoy Bawm is in Rumana Para of the same upazila.

Family sources say that lalthaleng Bawm was detained without trial for a year after his arrest and was not given proper treatment even after his physical condition deteriorated. He died on the way to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, and the detainee, Songmoy Bawm, is currently admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital under detention and his condition is said to be critical.

It is also learnt that the condition of detained Songmoy Bawm is gradually turning into cancer from a stomach ulcer. He is rapidly heading towards death due to lack of care.

It is worth noting that on April 2, 2024, as a result of a bank robbery by the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) terrorists, also known as the Bawm Party created by the Bangladesh Army, the joint forces arrested a total of 49 people, including innocent women and children, from Bethel Para in an operation against the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF), including lalthaleng Bawm and Songmoy Bawm on April 8, 2024. These people were sent to prison on various false cases.

Although some of those detained in this operation were released within a few months, 23 women and 4 children are known to have been in prison for more than a year.

Many have multiple cases against them and their bail applications have been rejected multiple times.

But at the same time, while top leaders of banned militant organizations have been released on bail, innocent Bawm women, men, students, and children have been detained.
