Hill Voice, 16 April 2026, Special Correspondent: It is reported that measles has finally started to spread in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT).
On April 11, 2026, it was reported that 2 Mro children died of measles in Ringlat Mro Para village under Ward No. 7 of Kurukpata Union of Alikadam Upazila under Bandarban district. In addition, many more children are reported to have been infected.
The names of the children who died of measles are: 1. Jongrung Mro (3 months), father- Lengklang Mro, mother- Kambung Mro and 2. Khatong Mro (7 months), father- Lukun Mro, mother- Kairu Mro. Both of them are residents of Ringlat Mro Para village of Kurukpata Union.
Local sources said that although some measles patients have been admitted to the Alikadam Upazila Health Complex for treatment, most of the children are lying in a state of senseless due to lack of proper treatment in various villages of Kuruppata Union.
Due to the remoteness of the area’s communication system, there is still no accurate count of the patients or any specific information about their current overall condition.
Locals have expressed deep concern about this and have strongly demanded that the upazila administration and the relevant health department take necessary measures to prevent it.
It is worth noting that a measles outbreak occurred in the plains of Bangladesh in mid-March. According to the data of the Directorate General of Health Services on April 6, more than 8,500 children have been admitted to hospitals across the country on suspicion of measles. 1,099 people have been confirmed to have measles. 118 children have died due to measles.
