Khagrachari administration allows 12 Jumma shops in Alutila to stay open until Boisuk

Hill Voice, 2 April 2026, Khagrachari: It has been reported that today (2 April 2026) the Khagrachari district administration suspended its order to close 12 Jumma shops around the Alutila tourist area and allowed them to remain open temporarily until the traditional festivals of Boisuk, Sangrai and Biju.

However, eight owners of the 12 shops have been instructed to meet with the Khagrachari district administration after the Boisuk festival.

It has been reported that the district administration’s decision has brought some relief among the shop owners. However, they remain deeply concerned about what will happen after the Boisuk festival.

It is worth noting that yesterday, on 1 April 2026 at around 3:00 p.m., the shops were suddenly shut down under the leadership of Khagrachari Deputy Commissioner Md. Anwar Sadat. This created deep anger and frustration among the affected Jumma shopkeepers.

It is also learnt that more than 15 Jumma (Tripura) families have been living around the Alutila tourist center for a long time. Their overall economic condition is extremely poor. As they did not receive shop plots inside the tourist facility, many of them set up small retail shops in nearby areas and somehow manage their livelihoods and support their families. It can be said that those shops are their last means of survival. After the district administration closed the shops yesterday, the shop owners became distressed and uncertain about their future.
