Two Tripura youths allegedly beaten by UPDF (Prasit) for paying less extortion

Hill Voice, 2 April 2026, Khagrachari: It has been reported that in Guimara Upazila of Khagrachari district, two Tripura youths were severely beaten by collectors of the Prasit faction of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF), an armed organization opposed to the Chittagong Hill Tracts Accord for paying less than the demanded extortion money for an annual license (pass) for cattle and goat trading.

The incident took place yesterday (31 February) at around 10:00 a.m. in the Dewan Para area of Guimara Upazila.

According to local sources, UPDF collector Bikash Tripura summoned two traders- Nayan Tripura, S/O Pati Kamini Tripura, from Taimatai No. 3 Rubber Plantation village, and Antar Tripura, from Khagra Para to collect their annual pass by paying 5,000 taka within yesterday. However, due to family business, the two victims were unable to go there yesterday.

At around 10:00 a.m. yesterday, the two youths went to meet collector Bikash Tripura in the Dewan Para area of Guimara. During the meeting, the collector demanded 5,000 taka as extortion for an annual license token for cattle and goat trading. While collecting the token, the youths paid 4,000 taka, but when they failed to provide the remaining 1,000 taka immediately, the collector became enraged and beat both youths with a stick.

It has been reported that the incident has created fear among local residents.
