Wamong Tanchangya goes missing while grazing cows in Ghumdhum, suspicions on RSO

Hill Voice, 25 September 2025, Bandarban: It has been reported that a Jumma villager named Wamong Tanchangya (55) has gone missing since September 23 while grazing cattle in the hills of Ghumdhum Union of Naikkongchari Upazila under Bandarban district.

The villagers concerned believe that terrorists of the Rohingya militant organization RSO (Rohingya Solidarity Organization) forcibly took away Wamong Tanchangya along with the cows.

According to local sources, Wamong Tanchangya’s house is in Bhalukia village of Ward No.8 of Ghumdhum Union. He has been earning a living by cultivating banana plantations on the last border of Bhalukia canal. Apart from this, he took care of cattle for various villagers. So, he had about 15-20 cows, which he used to herd in the hilly areas.

However, due to the recent increase in the presence and activity of armed members of the Rohingya organizations RSO and ARSA in the area, Wamong Tanchangya, on the advice of the villagers, would come to the main village at night and spend the night. In the morning, he would go back to herd the cows.

On September 23, Wamong Tanchangya went to herd his cows as usual in the morning and did not return that night. When he did not return all day yesterday (September 24), worried villagers (10-12 people) from Bhalukia and Fatrajhiri villages went to Wamong Tanchangya’s plantation and searched the surrounding area. But they could not find Wamong Tanchangya and his cows anywhere.

Locals suspect that RSO terrorists have taken away Wamong Tanchangya along with the cows.

According to villagers, RSO members have recently been stationed in the Wakkudong Hill and Gar Moin stream areas of border pillars 39-41 near Bhalukia village and are conducting their actions from there. Members of the Arakan Army were once stationed in that area.

It is learnt that the villagers, unable to find Wamong Tanchangya, reported the incident to the nearby Reju Para BGB camp.

It is reported that around 100-130 villagers, both men and women, have again set out to search for the missing Wamong Tanchangya this morning (September 25). However, as of the time of writing this report, no news of the missing Wamong Tanchangya has been received.
