Hill Voice, 24 September 2025, Khagrachari: It has been alleged that a Marma girl (12) studying in a high school was gang-raped by three Bengali settler youths in the municipality area of Khagrachari Sadar Upazila of Khagrachhari district.
The incident took place yesterday (September 23) between 9 pm and 11 pm on the eastern side of the Shasana Raxmit Buddhist Vihara in Singinala Ward No.1 of Khagrachari Municipality. The victim is a class 8 student of Khagrachari Government Girls’ High School, and her house is in Singinala Ward No.1.
Although the names of the rapists have not been known yet, the victim’s family sources say that the girl could see the Bengali settler youths.
Yesterday, the victim’s father, Mongsajaing Marma (48), filed a case with Khagrachari Sadar Police Station as the plaintiff. While filing the case, Mongsajaing Marma wanted to mention the rapists as “Bengali settler youths”, but on the advice of the police officer on duty, he had to mention them as “3 unidentified people”.
It is learnt that the victim student goes to the house of teacher Uchaching Marma in the same area for private lessons every day at around 6 pm and returns home at around 9 pm. Yesterday too, she went to the house of teacher Uchaching Marma for private lessons. But as the student did not return home even after 9:30 pm, the student’s worried father went to the house of teacher Uchaching Marma to look for her. The student’s father, Mongsajaing Marma, came to know that his daughter had left for home at 9 pm as usual. She had not returned home by then.
Then, worried Mongsajaing Marma started searching for his daughter with the help of relatives and villagers. At one stage of the search, at around 11 pm, the girl was found unconscious on a place of soil stockpile area on the eastern side of the Buddhist monastery located in Singinala Ward No.1 of Municipality. Then, water was brought and sprinkled on the unconscious girl’s head and face, causing the girl to regain consciousness.
Then, according to the statements of the girl and her father, it is known that when the girl reached near Savita Chakma’s shop on her way home around 9 pm, 3 Bengali settler youths grabbed her from behind and forcibly took her to the above-mentioned area on the east side of the Buddhist monastery. Then, by spraying anesthetic on the girl’s nose and mouth, the Bengali settlers took turns raping the girl.
