Idols vandalized by miscreants in various temples in Kushtia

Hill Voice, 16 September 2025, Special Report: It has been reported that idols were vandalized at the Swarupdaha Palpara Kali Temple in Poradaha Union of Mirpur Upazila of Kushtia and at a Durga temple in Kandulia village of Singherbangla Union of Netrokona Sadar Upazila.

According to multiple sources, idols were vandalized at the Swarupdaha Palpara Kali Temple in Poradaha Union of Mirpur Upazila of Kushtia at around 8:30 pm on Sunday (September 14). After the vandalism, the miscreants also took away a surveillance camera (IP camera) installed at the scene.

Temple committee president Amresh Ghosh said that the heads and hands of the idols of Kartik and Saraswati in the temple have been vandalized. He also said that this temporary temple surrounded by a tin shed is guarded every day. But at the time of the incident, there was no electricity, and it was raining. But when I went during load shedding, I saw that the idols had been vandalized. Someone took this opportunity to vandalize the idols and leave.

Durga Puja is ahead, the clay work of the idol has been completed. The painting work was supposed to start from last Monday (September 15). On the other hand, an incident of vandalism of the idols at a Durga temple in Kandulia village of Singherbangla union of Netrokona Sadar upazila has also occurred. Unknown miscreants committed this incident sometime last Monday (September 15) night.

Idols were being made at a temporary puja pavilion in Kandulia village on the occasion of the autumn Durga festival. The craftsmen had finished the clay work a few days ago and went for a temporary break. Then the temple committee members covered the idols with tarpaulin and cloth.

On Tuesday (September 16) at around 7 am, locals found that the right hand of the Kartik idol had been twisted and the left hand of the Asura idol had been broken. The Asura’s neck had also been twisted and partially broken.

Later, the temple committee informed the police about the matter. Police inspected the scene in the morning.

Temple committee president Mintu Roy said, “The only work left to be done was to paint the idols. The painting work was supposed to start within two to three days.”
