Hill Voice, 31 August 2025, Khagrachari: It was reported that on 29 August, the Bangladesh Army arrested 6 innocent Jumma villagers from Ugudochari village of Babuchara union of Dighinala upazila under Khagrachari Hill District. In addition, the army searched 9 Jumma houses and snatched mobile phones, torches, money from 2 people, and severely harassed 2 people.
According to local sources, on August 25, a joint army team of 80-90 people led by Lieutenant Md. Russell of Dighinala Army Zone and Warrant Officer Md. Mohidul Islam of Jarulchari Sub-Zone in Khagrachari started an operation in Dhanpada, Pakujjechari, Ugudochari, Borgo Para, Diren Para, Duluchari and Naraichari areas under Babuchara Union.
As part of the operation, an army team of 52-members arrested 6 innocent villagers from Ugudochari village on August 29, at around 1:30 pm. The arrested persons are: 1. Rupanta Chakma (33), son of late Genghulya Chakma; 2. Chiji Chakma (28), son of late Manchan Chakma; 3. Ratul Chakma (26), son of Mintu Bikash Chakma; 4. Shyamal Jyoti Chakma (37), son of late Hakkarakya Chakma; 5. Hukkumya Chakma (40), son of late Chitraban Chakma and 6. Bili Chandra Chakma (45), son of Kalesh Chandra Chakma.
The army also conducted extensive searches in 9 houses and reportedly destroyed their belongings. The owners of the affected houses are: 1. Narottam Chakma, 2. Dhanaram Chakma, 3. Santu Chakma, 4. Sikkanya Chakma, 5. Sukrasen Chakma, 6. Nihar Bindu Chakma, 7. Amrita Lal Chakma, 8. Jewel Chakma and 9. Nibaran Chakma. After the search, the army members took away 1 Symphony mobile phone of Sikkanya Chakma, 1 mobile phone and 1 torch of Amrita Lal Chakma, and 3000 BDT in cash by breaking the box.
On the other hand, the army personnel engaged in target shooting puting an AK-47 on the shoulder of a villager named Ratul Chakma and forced another villager named Gyana Ratan Chakma (43) to fast for the whole day and roam around with the army team. It is learnt that Ratan Chakma had a kallong (a kind of traditional basket) with vegetables on his back at the time. The army personnel also took Ratan Chakma’s mobile phone.
