Oikya Parishad gets angry over exclusion of minorities from new judge appointments

Hill Voice, August 27, 2025, Dhaka: On August 25, 2025, 25 new additional judges were appointed to the High Court Division of the Supreme Court-9 judicial officers, 9 lawyers, and 7 law officers. However, not a single person from religious or ethnic minority communities, who make up about 10% of the country’s population, was included despite the availability of qualified candidates.

The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad strongly condemned and protested this exclusion. Leaders of the organization-Professor Dr. Nim Chandra Bhowmik, Ushatan Talukder, Nirmal Rosario, and Acting General Secretary Manindra Kumar Nath-expressed anger and disappointment. On August 26, Manindra Kumar Nath issued a press release on behalf of the Oikya Parishad.
