20 villages in Sajek face hardship due to UPDF-imposed restrictions on bringing in essential goods

Hill Voice, 18 October 2025, Special Correspondent: It has been reported that at least 20 Jumma-inhabited villages in Sajek under Baghaichari Upazila of Rangamati District are facing severe hardship due to a ban imposed by anti-CHT Accord UPDF terrorists on the transport of essential goods to the area.

For at least the past 20 days, the Jumma villagers in the area have been unable to properly purchase their essential goods. It is reported that they have to live with great difficulty.

It is reported that the villagers of the area primarily rely on the shops located in Udaypur Business Center of Sajek Union to buy essential goods such as rice, lentils, oil, onions, and garlic. The owners and traders of these shops bring the essential items to Udaypur Business Center from markets in Khagrachhari, Dighinala, Boalkhali, Machalong, and other areas for sale.

About 20 days ago, UPDF terrorists, led by the chief collector of extortion in the area, Dolapuno Chakma, imposed a ban on transporting any type of essential goods on the Sajek–Machalong–Dighinala road. It is reported that Dolapuno Chakma’s residence is in Daripara village of Sajek.

The 20 villages affected by the ban are: Daripara, Choynalchara, Shunyochara, Choto Komlak, Boro Komlak, Talchara, Khagrachari, Longkor, Kingkor, Dhebachara, Bhuiyochara, Tarabonia, Ghaudomor, Rangapanichara, Nuo Adam, Udaypur, Bagheimor, Mongali, Fittichara, Gachkabachara etc.

A source revealed that UPDF is carrying out these anti-people activities due to excessive extortion, intimidation of the population, and distrust towards the people. It has also been reported that many are expressing their anger against UPDF.
